Before joining the firm of HYJEK & FIX, INC., Irene Schecter was the Legislative Director for Congressman Bill Hefner of North Carolina. Congressman Hefner, prior to retirement in 1998, was a member of the House Appropriations Committee, serving on the Defense Subcommittee, and was also Ranking Member and former Chairman of the Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee. Ms. Schecter was directly responsible for all work on these two subcommittees for the Congressman. In that position, she became very familiar with the Base Realignment and Closure Process and was involved in ongoing issues related to the 1993 and 1995 BRAC rounds. Additionally, she was also directly responsible for matters before the eleven other Appropriations Subcommittees and is, therefore, familiar with many government programs and their respective legislative histories. In addition to her duties as Legislative Director for Congressman Hefner, Ms. Schecter also served as Associate Staff for the House Budget Committee from 1983 to 1987 and was responsible for keeping the Member advised on the budget as presented by the Administration and on Congressional legislative developments during each budget cycle. She is intimately familiar with the congressional budget process and is a noted expert in this area. Irene also served as Legislative Director for former Congressman Richardson Preyer who was a member of the House Commerce Committee. In this role, she not only was responsible for a multitude of commerce related legislative issues before the House, but also for tracking and troubleshooting grant applications with numerous Federal agencies. Prior to coming to Capitol Hill and Washington, Irene was a Staff Assistant in the District Attorney's Office for the Superior Court of North Carolina in Greensboro, North Carolina. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. |
